Atmospheric and Data Science
Sigma Theta provides analytical, modelling and technical review services across atmospheric science, environmental assessment and data-driven decision support. Work is grounded in published methods, reproducible workflows and transparent interpretation of satellite, model and monitoring datasets.
Satellite-Based Environmental Analysis
High-frequency Himawari-8 processing, including ΔFusion deterministic enhancement, supports detailed assessment of smoke, dust and other rapidly evolving atmospheric phenomena.
Capabilities include:
• ΔFusion high-resolution radiance, temperature and motion fields
• Reconstruction of short-duration peaks for exposure assessment
• Ground-Level Concentration (GLC) estimation using infrared indices
• Identification of plume structure, thermal behaviour and transport pathways
• Multi-sensor integration (Himawari, CAMS, MODIS, VIIRS where appropriate)
• Support for dispersion interpretation during rapidly changing events
• Identification of winds, inversions and stability changes relevant to operations
Dispersion and Air Quality Modelling
Defensible dispersion and impact assessment using established regulatory models and appropriate meteorology.
• AERMOD — near-field industrial dispersion, terrain and building effects
• CALPUFF — long-range transport, fires, dust, odour and coastal effects
• Backward/forward trajectory analysis for source attribution
• Meteorological data preparation (AERMET, CALMET, WRF-based preprocessing)
• Integration of satellite-derived fields into dispersion interpretation
• Satellite-informed evaluation of modelled plume timing and structure
Independent Technical Review
Structured review of modelling, evidence and datasets for planning, regulatory and legal contexts.
• Evaluation of CTM and dispersion modelling approaches
• Review of monitoring and reanalysis datasets (e.g., CAMS)
• Assessment of plume interpretation, temporal resolution and uncertainty
• Cross-checking model outputs against Himawari-8 structure
• Preparation of defensible written statements and visual evidence
Statistical Analysis, Automation and Programming
Data science capabilities underpin all analysis, including time-series statistics, anomaly detection, regression, automation and large-data processing.
• Time-series and exceedance analysis
• Anomaly detection and spatial statistics
• Regression and cross-validation
• Automated workflows in Python, Bash, R, CDO and GDAL
• Large dataset processing and QC
• Custom analysis scripts and reproducible reporting
Custom Scientific Support
Event-specific reconstruction, monitoring strategy design, CTM data integration and technical support for regulatory and scientific reporting.
